Passover and Easter Convergence

Passover. A traditional Jewish holiday observed for thousands of years dating back to the time of Moses.

Easter. A "high" holiday in the Christian religion celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, son of God.

When the Hebrew people were enslaved in Egypt, the Lord instructed them to mark their doorposts with the blood of a spring lamb. When the death angel passed by the first born son would be spared in the households marked with the blood of the lamb.

The Passover feast was also celebrated by Jesus and his disciples in what is referred to as the Last Supper. Jesus, referred to as the Lamb of God, was sacrificed on what we now call Good Friday.

In A.D. 2012, 5772 in the Hebrew calendar, these two holy days converge. Tonight is the first night of Passover and is also Good Friday.

Our common heritage comes together tonight.

Blessings.
